In 1988, Terry and Pat Powell left their corporate jobs to serve people living in low income areas. They began building an extensive resource program in downtown Atlanta, mostly notably in the government housing communities of Perry Homes and Bowen Homes. Here, StreetWise offered a broad range of services to help over 600 families living below the poverty level get the professional help and care they needed to rebuild their lives.
Our Mission
The mission of StreetWise Georgia is to offer the necessary physical, emotional, mental and spiritual tools to help people stabilize their lives, improve their environment, and move out of a state of dependency into a state of well-being and self-sufficiency.
Our Vision
Our vision for helping inner city families has expanded into all metro Atlanta. StreetWise Georgia is designed to help get struggling families back on their feet and functioning independently. StreetWise offers a place where people can count on getting the help and support they need, whenever they need it.
